Marshall Women’s Basketball Welcome Georgia State for Midweek Showdown

Tomorrow night, Marshall women’s basketball welcomes the Georgia State Panthers to the Cam Henderson Center in a contest honoring Black History Month.
The Thundering Herd has been on a tear as of late, winning its last three games against the likes of Central Michigan, South Alabama, and Louisiana. The Panthers are the opposite entering the matchup, as its sitting on a four-game skid with losses to Troy, Arkansas State, Texas State, and ULM.
Marshall, in its win 88-81 victory on the road in Mount Pleasant, Michigan against the Central Michigan Chippewas resulted in another historic performance for senior guard Timaya Lewis-Eutsey. Lewis-Eutsey scored 30+ points for the fifth time this season, dropping a career-high 36 points, and 8 steals. She joins Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo as the only players in D1 with 35 points and right steals in a game this season. She is one of six players in NCAA D1 this year to have five 30-point performances.
Lewis-Eutsey, after the success against the Chippewas was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season, marking the first three-time conference champion in Marshall history since Kristina Behnfeldt in 1998-99. She was also named as the USBWA National Player of the Week.
Leading the way for the Panthers is junior Crystal Henderson, who earned her sixth 20+ point performance in the team’s most recent loss, an 81-62 defeat against the UL Monroe Warhawks.
The Panthers are led by eighth-year head coach Gene Hill, who sits with an overall record of 101-129. The Thundering Herd is coached by second-year leader Juli Fulks, the former D3 National Champion at Transylvania holds an overall record in 21 seasons at 435-169, including 35-26 at Marshall.
This is the battle of defenses, both teams are in the top 50 in the NCAA Division I in forced turnovers per game, Marshall 39th (20.58), Georgia State 32nd (20.75) as well as steals. Marshall 14th (12.5), Georgia State 22nd (11.8)
This year’s Thundering Herd squad has already earned its second 20+ win season in three years and can tie for 3rd most wins (21) with a win today.
