Marshall Women’s Soccer Tops UPike in Exhibition

Marshall women’s soccer took care of business in dominate fashion in a 9-0 victory against the UPike Bears on Saturday at Hoops Family Field in the teams’ Fans First Exhibition.
Hurricane native Bailey Fisher and newcomer Tiggi Gent led the way for the Herd with two goals apiece as The Herd held the Bears without a single shot.
The Herds’ stampede began at the opening gate, as it found the back of the net 30 seconds into the match as Fisher scored off an assist by Brooklyn McComas.
In the fourth minute, Larissa Ozorio added onto the score as she found the bottom center of the goal from an assist by Ami Komori to give the Herd a 2-0 lead.
McComas scored 15 minutes later as Geovanna Souza picked up her first of two assists. Souza drew UPike goalkeeper Neveah Brown out of the goal to give McComas the wide-open shot.
Marshall’s lead increased to 4-0 in the 23rd minute as Fisher scored her second goal. Fisher led Marshall in points and tied the team lead in goals last season.
Rylie McKinney followed suit three minutes later before Gent scored twice in a span of less than three minutes to put the Herd up 6-0.
By halftime, Marshall led 8-0 and held a 31-0 advantage in shots. Marshall took 15 shots on goal in the first half.
Marshall added one more goal in the second half as Luana Gusmao scored in the 48th minute.
Marshall outshot UPike 44-0 in the match, with 20 shots on goal. Brown finished the contest with seven saves in 45 minutes of action for the Bears.
Marshall opens up the regular season on Thursday on the road as it travels to Morehead, Kentucky to take on the Morehead State Eagles with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
