On Saturday Marshall Football kicks off its 2024 campaign

   Marshall on Saturday kicks off its 2024 campaign against Stony Brook as both teams try to improve on the previous year’s losing records. 

Marshall finished last season at 6-7 and suffered its first losing season in seven years. It now enters its fourth season in the Sun Belt Conference. The visiting Stony Brook Seawolves of the Colonial Athletic Association will come to Huntington from Stony Brook, New York following their first winless season in program history, finishing 0-10 last season.    

The game will mark the beginning of new eras for both programs as Marshall will debut its revamped offense with first-year offensive coordinator Seth Doege’s air raid scheme. Seth Doege comes to Huntington after serving the 2022 season as the Tight Ends coach at Purdue and brings the air raid offense which is a pass-heavy and pass-first offense created by the late Mike Leach after playing for Leach at Texas Tech from 2009-2012. Stony Brook will debut their youngest head coach in program history with Billy Cosh who is thirty-two years old.

Mike Green having tremendous impact for the Marshall Thundering Herd football team

The criteria for the top athlete of Marshall football were based on the most significant accolades, stats, overall impact on the team, and performance on the field.       The name at the top of the most important Marshall football stats this season is that of redshirt sophomore defensive back Mike Green is the name that is at the top all season long.      The transfer from the University of Virginia is now in his second season with the Thundering Herd. Marshall aims to get over .500 against Georgia State

 by Ben Anderson           Marshall football aims to get to over .500 Thursday as it plays the Georgia State Panthers at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in primetime Sun Belt Conference action.      The contest will mark the second straight season that the two teams will meet in a mid-week ESPN matchup and the second straight year that Marshall has played a Thursday night contest at home.        Both teams enter the contest ranked 4th and 6th in the Sun Belt Conference East Division. They need to win to boost contention in the division’s standings of determining the East division champion.       Marshall is ranked 4th place with a record of 3-3 (1-1) and comes off a 24-23 loss vs Georgia Southern where Marshall suffocated a 20-point fourth quarter lead in a game with first-place implications in the East Division standings.
