Marshall Goes Cold Shooting in Second Half Loss Against Texas State

 By Ben Anderson      Marshall women’s basketball fell victim to cold shooting in the second half Sunday in its Sun Belt Conference opener against Texas State falling 60-48.      Marshall led by as much as 15 in the first half but saw Texas State rally with a 19-point rally in the second half as Marshall shot 20 percent from the field after halftime.       “Obviously that was a heartbreaking and really disappointing game for us,” Marshall head coach Juli Fulks said.       Marshall defensively started the game applying pressure, as the Thundering Herd forced 9 turnovers in the opening quarter.      “I thought we had a really good week of practice,” Fulks said. “The first fifteen minutes of the game, outside of us not shooting well, went per the script and we really understood what we were doing and how we were doing it.”      Marshall’s struggles from shooting were evident early on, a...

Juli Fulks, Marshall Women’s Basketball Head Coach, Set To Make Sun Belt Conference Debut Against Texas State

 By Ben Anderson      Juli Fulks, Marshall women’s basketball head coach, is set to make her Sun Belt Conference debut Sunday when the Thundering Herd welcomes the Texas State Bobcats.      Fulks in her first year at the helm for Marshall after serving the previous ten seasons at NCAA Division III institution, Transylvania University. At Transylvania, Fulks compiled a record of 242-39 including a national championship.      Texas State is led by Zenarae Antoine in her 14th season. Antoine has an overall record of 207-200.       Marshall is 5-6 after defeating NCAA Division II Davis & Elkins on Dec. 20, 2024. Marshall Closes Out Non-Conference Play With Commanding Victory Over Davis & Elkins

 By Ben Anderson      The Marshall Thundering Herd ended non-conference play with a commanding 77-38 victory Saturday against the Davis & Elkins Senators at the Cam Henderson Center.       Marshall struggled early on, starting the game 0-6 from the field. The Herd fired its first ten shots from behind the arc, only converting two attempts.       Defensively, Marshall started the game forcing six turnovers and going on an 8-0 scoring run concluding with a 3-pointer from CC Mays with six minutes remaining in the opening quarter.       At half time, Marshall led Davis & Elkins 42-20 and continued to dominate in the second half as the Herd only allowed two field goals in a span of 14:28. The run expanded from a 34-18 score with 4:18 left in the second quarter to 65-22 in the third. Marshall Women's Basketball Closes Out Non-Conference Play at Home Against Davis & Elkins

 By Ben Anderson      Marshall women’s basketball aims to rebound from a loss Cincinnati and secure one final non-conference victory on Saturday, when it faces the Davis & Elkins Senators.       Marshall welcomes a second NCAA Division II opponent this season. Davis & Elkins will face its first NCAA Division I opponent in what is an exhibition game for the Senators but will be a regular season contest that counts to its overall record for Marshall.       Marshall is 4-6 after falling 64-67 against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Wednesday. Davis & Elkins (1-9) is coming off its first win of the season against Point Park on Saturday.       The Thundering Herd now in its third season in the Sun Belt Conference, is led by first-year head coach Juli Fulks. Marshall Aims for Second Straight Home Win Against Jacksonville

 By Ben Anderson      Marshall aims to rebound from a lopsided loss to Florida and secure its second consecutive home win on Friday when it faces the Jacksonville Dolphins.      The contest marks the second straight game that Marshall faces an opponent from Florida, while Jacksonville (6-3) will face its second consecutive Sun Belt opponent after defeating Georgia Southern on Thursday 56-51.      Marshall is 3-5, and coming off a 80-62 loss Saturday at Florida.       The Thundering Herd now in its third season in the Sun Belt Conference and led by first-year head coach Juli Fulks. Mike Green having tremendous impact for the Marshall Thundering Herd football team

 By Ben Anderson Editor’s Note      This package is about Marshall football defensive lineman Mike Green. Green was selected by the students of JMC 303 to be the top athlete of Marshall football. The criteria for the top athlete of Marshall football were based on the most significant accolades, stats, overall impact on the team, and performance on the field.       The name at the top of the most important Marshall football stats this season is that of redshirt sophomore defensive back Mike Green is the name that is at the top all season long.      The transfer from the University of Virginia is now in his second season with the Thundering Herd. In 2023, he finished with 43 tackles, including 9 tackles for loss, and 4 1/2 sacks with six quarterback hurries.       The Williamsburg, Virginia native, was expected to be one of the captains of the Thundering Herd this season.
